Here
is a woodworking project that will add a lot to any Early American
setting. It is very functional since the drawer is a great place
to store matches. Every time the power went out before, I never
could find matches. With this candle sconce you, too, will be ready,
with a candle and matches in its drawer.
Instructions
Step 1
Study the drawing of the exploded view so that you know how it all
goes together.
Step 2
Cut all of the pieces to size according to the materials list.
Step 3
Lay out the shape of the back, part number 1, and the two sides,
parts number 2, using a 1/2-inch grid. Transfer the shapes to the
wood, and cut them out. Be sure to make an exact pair of sides.
Step 4
Carefully make the two "stop" dadoes, 1/2-inch wide and
1/8-inch deep on the inside surfaces of the sides. Be sure
to stop the dadoes 1/4inch from the back edge.
Step 5
After all of the pieces have been made, assemble the case. Check
that everything is square. Be sure to screw the holder, part number
4, to the shelf, part number 3, before assembly.
Step 6
Fit the drawer assembly to the case. Add the knob, part number 10.
Step 7
This project looks great either stained or painted. Add a candle
and don't forget to put matches in the drawer.
