Cranberry Scoop Plan Free Project Plan

This
is a copy of a real cranberry scoop that was used in the cranberry
bogs of Massachusetts. Today, this scoop makes a functional wall decoration
for plants or, perhaps, out-going mail. Or you could use it for a
small magazine rack. If you use old wood—or if you distress
new wood—yours will look like the original.
Instructions
Step 1
Cut all of the pieces to overall size.
Note: One
of each of parts numbers 2, 3, and 4 will be cut one im shorter (to
a 7-inch length).
Step 2
The shape of the handle, part number 7, will have to be laid out on
a 1-inch grid and cut out.
Step 3
Cut an inch off one of the two, parts numbers 2, 3 and 4. The 8-inch-long
piece is for the
front; the 7-inch-long one is for the
back.
Step 4
Locate and drill nine 3/8-inch-diameter holes along the
top edge of the 7-inch-long back board, part number 2. Use the given dimensions
at the top of the front view.
Step 5
Shape the two sides, parts number 1, as shown. Make an exact pair.
Step 6
Cut the ends of the nine teeth at 50 degrees as shown.
Step 7
Assemble the scoop using old-style, square-cut nails, parts number
8 if you can get them. Be sure everything is square. Don't forget
to add the handle
before adding the back boards.
Step 8
Glue the nine teeth in place.
Step 9
Sand all over. Since this was a tool, use a rasp to create wear wherever
you think it
would have occurred in normal use.
Step 10
You can either paint or stain this project. If you want it to look
old. distress it and apply a glaze top-coat. Next cranberry picking
season vou will be ready to pick your own!
