This
is my kind of dog. You don't have to feed it, clean up after it,
walk it, or listen to it bark. This is a fun project and will be
enjoyed by children for many years to come. It requires a special
movement with a pendulum at the top and bottom.
Instructions
Step 1
Carefully study how it all goes together and how all pieces
are
made. Important: Keep the tail and ears as light as possible so it will work correctly.
Step 2
Cut all pieces of wood to overall size and sand. Be sure
to use good-quality plywood for the thin pieces.
Step 3
Carefully lay out the pattern for each piece and transfer each to
the wood. Cut all irregular pieces to shape.
Step 4
Locate and drill all holes in the pieces. Sand lightly.
Step 5
Temporarily fit the block, part number 9, to the pendulum at the
top of the movement. Glue the ears, parts number 8, to the block,
part number 9. Add enough washers (two or three), parts number 10,
to balance the weight of the ears.
Step
6
Epoxy the lower pendulum to the tail, part number 12.
Step 7
Glue the back body, part number 2, to the front body, part number
4. Take care to line up the hole for the center shaft.
Step 8
Glue the cheeks, parts number 5, to the body, part number 4. Glue
the nose, part number 7, to the cheeks, parts number 5, and add
the collar, part number 6.
Step 9
Cut a 1 1/4-inch-diameter dowel into 1/8-inch-thick slivers and
sand. These will be the twelve supports, parts number 13.
Step 10
Glue the twelve supports, parts number 13, to the base, part number
1. Add the hanger, part number 16.
Step 11
Here is the fun part. Paint your clock to suit. You can
have a bright dog or whatever color combination you wish.
Step
12
Glue the two pins, parts number 3, to the base, part number 1, and
into the back of part number 2, the back body.
Step 13
Epoxy the block, part number 9, with the ears and weights attached
to the top pendulum base.
Step 14
Attach the movement to the body assembly, and bolt it in place.
Step 15
Add the hands and lower pendulum assembly.
Step 16
Glue the twelve numbers, parts number 14, in place. Glue the eyes,
parts number 15 in place.
Step 17
If everything is okay attach to a wall and give the tail a push.
