Step 1
Using 1/2-inch grid, draw the pattern on sheet of heavy paper.

Step 2
Transfer the pattern to the wood.

Step 3
Cut out and sand all edges.

Step 4
Paint with bright colors. I distressed mine slightly and sanded the edges to make it look old and "original." If you want to really make it look old and worn, apply a coat of dark stain over the paint.
