Step 1
Draw
a full-size 1/2'' grid on a sheet of heavy paper that is about 6
inches by 9 inches. Lay out the body, part number 1, on the grid.

Transfer the full-size pattern of the body, part number1,
to the wood, and cut out the body.
Step

Cut out the ears, parts number 2, and glue them to the
body.
Step

Cut the base, part number 3, and drill holes for the two
screws, parts number 6. Locate and drill a hole for the pull string,
part number7.
Step

Carefully drill two 3/16'' diameter holes through the sides
for the axles (1-3/4 inches in from the ends).

Cut the wheels, parts number 4, from a 1-1/2'' diameter
dowel, 1/2'' thick. Drill a 3/16 inch diameter hole in the middle
of each wheel.

Cut the axles, parts number 5, to length.

Glue and screw the body, part number 1, to the base, part
number 3

Add the axles, parts number 5, and glue the wheels, parts
number 4, to the axles. Take care not to glue the wheels
to the base.
Step

Use your imagination and paint your elephant as you see
it. Be sure to use nontoxic paint. You can paint the elephant very
plain, as was the original, with a lot of detail. Paint the base
and wheels with bright colors. Add the pull string, part number
7, and pull, part number 8. Your toy is ready for years of fun.
