Jewelry Box Clock Free Project Plan
This project is a takeoff of a small antique jewelry box I saw.
The original was made of percelain. This one is easy to make.
Step 1
Cut the center section out of a piece of hardwood that is 1 3/8
inches thick, following the drawing.
Step 2
Locate and drill a 3/8-inch-diameter hole through as shown.
Step 3
Glue a 1/8-inch-thick piece to the bottom of the center section.
Step 4
Drill a 2 5/16-inch-diameter hole almost through the 1/2-inch-thick
lid. Do
not drill all the way through.
Step
5
Sand the bottom surface of the lid. From the
underside of the lid, locate, and drill a 3/8-inch-diameter hole, 3/8 inch
deep and also a 1/8- inch-diameter hole, 1/8-inch deep, as shown.
Do not drill either hole through.
Step 6
Cut a 3/8-inch-diameter dowel 1 1/2 inches long, and glue it into
the hole in the lid.
Step 7
Cut a 1/8-inch-diameter dowel 1/4 inch long, and glue it in place
in the bottom surface of the lid. (This is a stop for the lid.)
Step 8
Sand the top surface of the center section.
Step 9
Attach the lid to the center and bottom section. Tack it in an out-of-the-way
area, so that it cannot move or open.
Step
10
Lay out the heart shape, and carefully cut it out. Sand the edges
with the lid in place. Round the top edges as shown. Keep the bottom
edge sharp. Check that the lid slides open correctly and that the
stop works correctly.
Step 11
Remove the lid and apply a satin or gloss coat to suit.
Step
12
Add a battery to the clock; insert and place it into the lid. You
might want to line the 2 5/16-inch-diameter opening.
Now you will have to go out and purchase some expensive jewelry!
