Modern Wall Clock Plan Free Project Plan

If your home decor is contemporary, this wall clock is for you. It is easy to make and can be finished many ways to blend into any room color.

Instructions

Step 1
Cut all pieces to overall size. Sand all surfaces.

Step 2
Cut the radius at the ends of the base, part number 1, and sand. Using a 1/8-inch-radius cove cutter, with a ball-bearing follower cut the outer edge as shown.

Step 3
Lay out and cut to size a doughnut-shaped piece for the outer ring, part number 2. Cove-cut the front, outer edge like the base. Using a router bit with a ball-bearing follower cut the inside rabbet 14-inch wide and 3/8-inch deep for the inner ring, part number 3.

Step 4
Cut the inner ring, part number 3, to size, and fit it to the outer ring, part number 2. Drill the center hole for the center shaft.

Step 5
Glue the inner ring, part number 3, into the outer ring, part number 2. Be sure that the direction of the grain is the same in both pieces.

Step 6
Cut the spacers, parts number 4, to length from a 3/4-inch-diameter dowel. Drill a 1/8-inch-diameter hole through the center of each.

Step 7
Locate and drill four 1/8-inch-diameter holes for the screws, parts number 5, in the base, part number 1. Countersink the holes from the back for the four screws, parts number 5.

Step 8
Carefully locate and drill 4 1/16-inch-diameter holes in the back surface of the outer ring, part number 2. They should line up exactly as the four holes in the base, part number 1. Temporarily assemble the pieces to check for fit. Disassemble.

Step 9
Sand all over and finish all of the pieces to suit.
Note: This project could be made of a wood such as ash or oak and finished in a clear coat to show the grain, or painted with a color that accents the room it will be placed in.

Step 10
Glue the twelve dashes in place. (Use a 6 1/4-inch time ring.) Add the hanger, part number 9.

Step 11
Assemble all of the pieces following the drawing of the exploded view above. Add a battery, pendulum, and the hands. The clock is ready for hanging.
