Round Plant Stand Plan project plans

Whenever I am visiting antique shops, I invariably find an old plant stand now and then. Most have little tags on them noting "not for sale. " Plant stands such as this one are very scarce, so the dealers do not want to sell them. They use them for display only. I have made all kinds—four-legged table types, half-round—but this is my first round plant stand. It is very unusual. The extra braces, parts number 5, really make it different.

Instructions

Step 1
On a board 3/4 inch by 6 1/2 inches and 41 1/2 inches long, carefully lay out the leg, part number 1, following the given dimensions.
Note: All surfaces labeled with an "X" are parallel to each other. Those labeled with a "Y" are also parallel to each other and 90 degrees from those at "X."

Step 2
Cut out the four legs. If you have a band saw, tack the four legs together and cut them all out at once.

Step 3
Lay out and cut to size the center and bottom shelf, parts number 2 and 3. Sand all over. You probably will have to glue up a board 32 inches square in order to cut out the bottom shelf, part number 3.

Step 4
Cut to size the spacers, parts number 5, brace, part number 6, and top shelf, part number 7.

Step 5
Dry-fit all pieces. If everything is okay, glue and nail the four legs, parts number 1, to the bottom shelf, part number 3. Glue and nail the center shelf, part number 2, in place.

Step 6
Add the spacers, parts number 4. Add the top brace, part number 5.

Step 7
Add the top shelf, part number 6, and you're done, except for finishing. (Continued below.)

Step 8
This project can be either stained or painted. Most old ones were painted. I found in my travels those from Vermont were stained and painted. The legs, spacers, and braces were painted; the three shelves were stained and varnished. Personally, I like the "Vermont" touch, and I like to distress the shelves to make the stand look old. All you need now is a bright corner that needs a plant stand and a lot of plants.
