These
small shelves come in many shapes and sizes. Many were made in the
30's so that they are now finding their way into antique shops.
Instructions
Step 1
Carefully make a full-size pattern.
Step 2
A trick I like to do in making fretwork projects is to finish the surfaces before cutting out the shape. Cut the wood
to overall sizes and sand. Add a stain and two or three top-coats
of varnish or shellac, sanding between coats. Note: Finish
both sides.
Step 3
Glue the paper pattern to the wood, using a thin coat of
rubber cement or a spray-mount adhesive. To get a smooth back surface,
lightly glue a plain piece of paper to the back, also.
Step 4
Locate and drill the eight Vs-inch-diameter holes. Cut
out the pattern.
Step 5
Peel the paper pattern and back sheet from the wood and
lightly sand.
