Tall Plant Table project plan

Here is an old-style plant stand. I remember my Grandmother had one just like it in her "parlor." It is simple to build and will make an interesting stand for your plants. A biscuit joiner was used in making my copy, but 1/4-inch-diameter dowels could work just as well.

Instructions

Step 1
Cut all pieces to size. Sand all over.

Step 2
Cut the bottom taper of the legs, parts number 1, three inches up, as shown, on the two inside surfaces only. Cut two slots with the bisc joiner on the two inside surfaces as shown in the drawing of the exploc view. Sand all over.

Step 3
Lay out the skirt, part number 2. Cut two slots with the biscuit
joiner to match the legs. Using a 1/2-inch-radius cove cutter with a ball- bearing follower, make a cut on the lower inside edge of the skirt to give a thin appearance. (See the drawing view at B-B.) Sand all over.

Step 4
Cut a notch following the given dimensions in all four corners of the shelf, part number 4. Sand all over.

Step 5
Using a router with a 3/8-inch-radius round cutter, make up the top, part number 7.

Step 6
Glue the skirts, parts number 2, to the legs, parts number 1, and clamp. Check that everything is square.

Step 7
Slide the shelf, part number 4, up into place. The top surface should be about 14 3/4 inches above the floor. If everything is okay, glue it in place. (You might want to drill and nail it in place, if you plan to have heavy plants on the shelves.)

Step 8
Add the two blocks, parts number 5, with the screws, parts number 6.

Step 9
Screw the top, part number 7, to the blocks, part number 5. Do not glue in place.

Step 10
This is another project that could be either stained or painted, Your friends and plants will love this stand.
