Tool Box with Drawer Free Project Plan

If your tool box is like mine, all the small tools you need are always lost in the bottom of the box. I usually have to take out two-thirds of the larger tools to find the smaller one I really need. This tool box solves that problem. Small tools go in the drawer. I wish I could take the credit for this great idea but I can't. This is a copy of an old tool box I saw in an antique shop in southern Maine.

Instructions

Step 1
Cut all of the pieces to overall size.

Step 2
The center handle will have to be laid out on a 1-inch grid. Lay out the pattern, and transfer it to the wood. Cut out and round the handle area, as shown.

Step 3
Locate and cut the 3/4-inch-wide by 1/4-inch-deep dadoes in the ends, part number 2 and 3, as shown. Note, there will be a small hole the bottom surface of the dadoes after parts numbers 2,3, and 4 are assembled. This could be filled or simply left open. It will be seen after assembly.

Step 4
Assemble parts number 2,3,4, and 5. Add the two sides, parts number 1, and bottom, part number 6. Since this is a tool box and will get a lot of hard use, I suggest that you glue and nail it together.

Step 5
Make the drawer assembly to fit the opening, as shown. Add the pull, part number 12.

Step 6
This project can be either painted, as was the original, or stained.
